Headed Back West

01/14/2025

It's been over 5 years since I've been to Las Vegas. I was just talking to my wife the other day because I've come to realize, that while I might not have liked everything about it when I lived there some 6-7 years ago I do enjoy and miss it. Why? Not for reasons most people would think...

As a kid growing up; I spent a lot of my time in Las Vegas (North Las Vegas specifically) living with my grandparents, back then our schools had D.A.R.E. and peer mediators (hall monitors) and conex facilities for classrooms and libraries.

But that was some 20ish years ago... What's changed? In Vegas not much. But it's the dryness, the activity unknown that you can step out of your door drive a few miles and there is always something happening.

I'm heading back tomorrow for a week and a half to see some friends and try and do some work (we'll see how that goes), I'm still trying to figure out what my "new normal" is going to be... So much about me as an individual has changed...

The kid and young adult who once visited and lived in Las Vegas is now a 30-year-old father of two stepkids from my loving wife's previous marriage. I love them, they are my world but man sometimes they can be a handful every dad will say that about their kids at some point, right? it doesn't change the love or the sacrifice we're willing to make for them.

For the longest time well... 4 years these guys have been able to travel with me, it's been so much more fun being able to share my experiences with somebody else, especially ones that I love. Even my wife with both our crazy schedules has been able to travel with me. This is far better than traveling alone. Granted... Travel Alone = First Class and Traveling with Family = Main Cabin but... that's a fair and even trade in my opinion but man would it be nice if the airlines had domestic flights with 4 straight seats vs. three... okay I'm ranting...

I'll keep you posted on how the trip goes and if anything fun and exciting happens, I'm mostly looking forward to the memory lane and being there with my brother, oh yeah he's going too but we all know where he will be 99.9% of the time lol. Just wish my family and my kids could be with me but ya win some and loose some as a father... Until later.
